Herbert places 6th in long jump

STORM LAKE - NIACC freshman Tenisha Herbert placed sixth in the long jump Friday on day one of the NJCAA Region 11 track and field championships.

Herbert earned her sixth-place finish with a leap of 5.15 meters (16 feet, 10 3/4 inches). It was the first time in the indoor season that Herbert had competed in the long jump.

Herbert's leap ranks fourth on NIACC's indoor long jump list.

Herbert, who is from the British Virgin Islands, also placed eighth in the 200-meter dash in a time of 26.82 seconds. NIACC freshman Maddy Welbes was 10th in the 200 in a time of 27.59, which ranks seventh on the school's all-time 200 indoor list.

Herbert, qualified for Saturday's regional finals in the 60-meter dash. She covered the 60 meters in 7.96 seconds in the prelims to earn her spot in the finals.

The 7.96 seconds by Herbert ranks second on NIACC's all-time 60-meter list.

Also for the Trojans Friday, freshmen Taja Conley and Welbes both qualified for Saturday's finals in the 60-meter hurdles. Conley clocked a qualifying time of 9.92 (personal best) in the prelims and Welbes clocked a 10.01 (personal best) qualifying time.

The 9.92 time by Conley ranks second on the NIACC all-time 60-meter hurdle list and Welbes' 10.01 ranks fourth on the school's 60-meter hurdle all-time best list.
