NIACC women place fourth at regional meet
STORM LAKE - The NIACC men's track and field team placed third at the NJCAA Region XI meet Friday and Saturday on the Buena Vista University campus.
The Trojans, who received a first-place finish from Brian Jacques in the 3,000-meter run, accumulated 73 points in the two-day meet. Iowa Central was the team champion with 324 points and Iowa Western was second with 171 points.
Jacques, a freshman, won the 3,000 in a time of 9 minutes, 7.78 seconds. Jacques was also second in the 5,000 (15:53.30) and seventh in the mile (4:37.34).
Also for the NIACC men, Blake Keller was third in the 5,000 (15:53.72), fourth in the mile (4:29.81) and eighth in the 1,000 (2:44.08).
The Trojans also picked up third-place finishes from Akahnni Delgado in the 600 (1:23.24) and Brody Goos in the 60-meter hurdles (8.49).
The Trojans were also third in the distance medley relay (11:02.19) and 4x800-meter relay (8:13.57).
Running for the Trojans on the DMR were Logan Dalbeck, Scott Hengesteg, Daniel Hennigar and Abdiaziz Wako. Running on the 4x800 squad were Hennigar, Delgado, Wako and David Carter.
Carter was fifth in the 600 (1:24.66) and Delgado was seventh in the 1,000 (2:43.85). Grant Dieken was sixth in the 3,000 (9:23.28) and eighth in the 5,000 (16:47.68).
The Trojans' 4x400 team of Kyle Younker, Hengesteg, Prince Boduo and Ethan Klasi was eighth (3:33.63).
The NIACC women placed fourth with 58 points. Iowa Central was the women's team champion with 288 points, Iowa Western was second with 133 points and Hawkeye CC was third with 101 points.
The Lady Trojans were second in the distance medley relay (13:59.95) and second in the 4x400 (4:23.38).
In the DMR, the Lady Trojans ran Amy Fullerton, Erin Schwarzkopf, Ally Trager and Julia Dunlavey. In the 4x400, the Lady Trojans ran Dawhawn Wyatt, Schwarzkopf, Jaylynn Scrivner and Elizabeth Mennen.
The Lady Trojans were third in the 4x800 (10:41.45) running Fullerton, Maddison Shupe, Keisha Gonzague and Trager.
Also for the Lady Trojans, Scrivner was fourth in the 60 hurdles (9.83) and fourth in the 400 (1:02.09). Trager was fifth in the 800 (2:40.87), Julia Dunlavey was fifth in the 5,000 (20:29.65), Gonzague was sixth in the 1,000 (3:23.89), Sophia Fischer was seventh in the shot put (35-3 1/4) and Anne Marie Morris was eighth in the long jump (13-1 1/2).
