NIACC drops opener to Rock Valley, 5-2

ROCKFORD, Ill. - The NIACC women's soccer team dropped a 5-2 decision to Rock Valley College on Wednesday in its season opener.

Rock Valley (2-1) took a 4-2 lead at the half and added a goal in the second 45 minutes to claim the 3-goal non-conference victory.

NIACC received first-half goals from freshmen Aryana Rashidi and Iola Vanharen. Rashidi scored her first career goal on a penalty kick in the 14th minute and Vanharen scored her first career goal off a corner kick assist from Karly Holm in the 44th minute.

NIACC freshman keeper Nadia Kaiser made 14 saves in her first collegiate contest.

NIACC (0-1) returns to action Saturday at home against Central CC-Columbus in a non-conference contest. The match is slated to start at 3:30 p.m. on the NIACC campus.

Notes: Wednesday's match against Rock Valley College was the second time in school history the Trojans have face Rock Valley, which topped NIACC 3-2 in the 2004 season ... Saturday's match against Central CC-Columbus will be the first time the two schools have met in women's soccer.
