NIACC's Church, Colas move to quarterfinals

COUNCIL BLUFFS - NIACC's Isaac Church and Jessey Colas moved to Friday night's quarterfinals with victories Friday afternoon at the NJCAA Division I national wrestling championships at the Mid-America Center.

Church, the fourth-seed, moved to the Friday night 141-pound quarterfinals with a 7 minute, 27 second pin over Nassau's Ryan Paladino. Church now faces North Idaho's fifth-seeded Hunter Bidelman in the quarterfinals, which begin at 6:15 p.m. Friday

NIACC's 184-pounder Jessey Colas, the ninth-seed, also advanced to the quarterfinals with a technical fall over Southwestern Michiagan's Nathan Adrina, 18-1. Colas (16-2) now faces Northwest's eighth-seeded Aziz Fayzullaev in the quarterfinals.

Earlier Friday, Church (15-2) gained a 17-5 major decision victory over Snow's Will Korth in his second round match.

Colas advanced to the third-round with a 7-4 win over Iowa Western's Bruce Lukehart.

At 149 pounds, RCTC's Cohen Wiste pinned NIACC's Cordell White in 6:31 to advance to Friday night's quarterfinals.

In the 157-pound third-round match, Iowa Central's Darnai Heard pinned the Trojans' Tanner Warden in 5:19.

At 197 pounds, Labette's Matthew Marcum stopped the Trojans' Xander Kenworthy, 4-1.

NIACC's Cordell White (149) remains alive in the consolation side of the bracket. White (10-4) faces Anthony Bitner of Triton in his next consolation match.
