NIACC's Church places second at Luther Open

DECORAH – NIACC freshman Isaac Church placed second in the silver division at 141 pounds Saturday at the Luther College Open.

Church dropped a 9-4 decision to Wisconsin-Platteville's Maddux Blakely in the 141-pound title match.

Church (8-3) moved to the finals with decisions over Kael Lucero (Loras), Omar Zamora (RCTC), Joe Ebaugh (Upper Iowa) and Carter Fousek (Iowa State).

Also, Cruz Aguilar, who was wrestling unattached, claimed the 125-pound elite division title. Aguilar topped Wisconsin-Platteville's Nolan McKittrick in the title match by injury default at the 3-minute mark.

Aguilar (8-1) pinned Augsburg's Derek Steele in 3:55 in his semifinal match.

Aguilar pinned Luther's Miguel Garcia in 7:00 in his second round match and topped Eureka's Jake Jozwiak by technical fall (19-3) in the quarterfinals.

NIACC returns to action Wednesday at home against Iowa Central. The dual meet, which will be held in the NIACC recreation center, will start at 7 p.m.
