NIACC moves three to finals

ESTHERVILLE - NIACC's Christian Minto moved to the 165-pound title match at the NJCAA Central District wrestling tournament Sunday.

Minto, who received a first-round bye, topped Ellsworth's Cameron Nesbitt 8-3 in his semifinal match.

Minto, who is ranked No. 1, will face Iowa Central's second-ranked Ashton Eyler in the 165-pound title match.

NIACC's Brock Luthens (133) and Tony Mendoza also advanced to the finals with semifinal victories. Luthens edged Iowa Central's Maddie Roney 2-1 and Mendoza nipped Iowa Lakes' Deville Dentis 3-2.

Luthens, who is ranked third, faces Iowa Western's fifth-ranked Ladamien Sturdivant in the 133-pound title match. Mendoza, who is ranked second, faces Ellsworth's top-ranked Cardionte Wilson.

NIACC's Hunter Luke stayed alive in the consolation bracket with a 7-2 win over Iowa Central's Bret Minor at 141 pounds. Holton Truax topped Iowa Lakes' Tyler Needham 17-7 in a 197-pound consolation match.

Luke, Kendall Sandifer (157) and Truax will wrestle for third-place.

Luke faces Iowa Western's Daniel Leal at 133 pounds, Sandifer faces Ellsworth's Todd Perry and Truax faces Iowa Central's Ja'Quez Bostic in third-place matches.
