NIACC's Anderly faces Triton's Johnson in semifinals
COUNCIL BLUFFS - NIACC's third-ranked Austin Anderly will be seeking a berth in the national finals Saturday morning.
The sophomore from Henderson, Minn. will face Triton's fourth-ranked Tyree Johnson in the 141-pound semifinals at the NJCAA national tournament inside the Mid-America Center.
Iowa Central's sixth-ranked Eric Clarke takes on Lincoln's fifth-ranked Christian Kanzler in the other 141-pound semifinal. Clarke topped Anderly at the regional tournament.
On Friday night, Anderly (12-2) stopped Northeast Oklahoma's top-ranked Cody Karstetter 3-1 in the quarterfinals Friday night.
Anderly earned all-American honors with a fifth-place finish at 141 pounds during his freshman campaign.
NIACC has placed at least one wrestler in the Saturday night finals for four straight seasons. Last season, Mario Pena placed second at 285 pounds.
NIACC's Noah Jackson (157) and Jimsher Sidhu (285) guaranteed themselves all-American honors with a pair of wins in the consolation round on Friday night.
On Saturday, Jackson (13-9) faces North Idaho's Thomas Stevenson in the consolation bracket at 157. Both Jackson and Stevenson entered the tournament unranked.
Sidhu (14-7) takes on Clackamas' fifth-ranked Darryl Aiello. Sidhu picked up three falls in his four victories on Friday.
NIACC is in 12th place heading into Saturday. Northeast Oklahoma leads with 93.5 points and Iowa Central is in second place with 86.5 points.
Iowa Western is in fourth with 62 points, Ellsworth is in fifth with 61 points and Iowa Lakes is in 13th with 34 points.
