NIACC's Anderly advances to quarterfinals
COUNCIL BLUFFS - NIACC's third-ranked Austin Anderly advanced to Friday night's quarterfinals at 141 pounds with a 19-5 major decision victory over Camden's Jason Groff at the NJCAA national wrestling tournament.
Anderly, who earned all-American honors as a freshman with a 5th-place finish, faces Northeast Oklahoma's top-ranked Cody Karstetter in the quarterfinals that start at 6:15 p.m. Friday.
NIACC's Noah Jackson (157), Ryan Faught (165) and Jimsher Sidhu (285) dropped second-round matches on the championship side of the bracket.
At 157, Jackson dropped a 8-4 decision Highline's Liam Corbett.
At 165, Faught dropped a narrow 3-2 decision to Clackamas' Dillon Ulrey.
At 285 pounds, Northeast Oklahoma's Brian Andrews edged Sidhu, 4-3.
Mark Gonzales stayed alive in the consolation bracket at 125 pounds with a pair of wins. Gonzales pinned Minnesota West's Hser Eh Pwae in 1:12 and topped Iowa Central's Kevin Radcliff, 8-4.
Jackson also stayed alive in the consolation bracket with a 8-7 win over Spartanburg's Brandon Harris at 157 pounds.
Sidhu picked up a fall over Triton's Christopher Colvin in 3:15 to stay alive in the consolation bracket at 285 pounds.
Rodriguez, Faught, Askew and Sheppard were eliminated from the tournament with losses in the consolation bracket.
