Brackets released for district wrestling tournament
FORT DODGE - The NIACC wrestling team will compete in the NJCAA Central district championship meet Sunday on the Iowa Central campus.
The tournament is set to start at 10 a.m.
Competitors at the district meet are seeking to qualify for the NJCAA national tournament that is set for Feb. 23-24 in Council Bluffs. Each district can qualify no more than 70 percent of the total participants within the district.
NIACC enters the district tournament ranked No. 11 in the latest Intermat NJCAA poll. Iowa Central is ranked third, Ellsworth is seventh, Iowa Western is ninth and Iowa Lakes is 10th.
The following are the first round matches for the NIACC wrestlers:
125 - Mark Gonzales (N) vs. Javier Morno (Ellsworth)
133 - Arie Reyes (N) vs. D'Andre Brumfield (Iowa Western)
141 - Austin Anderly (N) received a first-round bye. Anderly faces winner of Kollin Wade (IW) and Keegan Powers (E)
149 - Robert Rodriguez (N) vs. Michael Zachary (IW)
157 - Noah Jackson (N) vs. Thomas Lisher (IW)
165 - Ryan Faught (N) vs. Myron Crawford (E)
174 - Tavion Askew (N) vs. Marcus Placide (Iowa Lakes)
184 - Jaylen Lee (N) vs. Jordan Shahrikian (E)
197 - Sedrak Sheppard (N) vs. Cayelon Barton (IL)
285 - Jimsher Sidhu (N) received first-round bye. Sidhu faces Charles Griffin (E) in second round.
