No. 11 NIACC falls to top-ranked Iowa Western, 37-9
MASON CITY - The No. 11 NIACC wrestling team dropped a 37-9 decision to No. 1 Iowa Western in a ICCAC dual meet Wednesday night in the NIACC gym.
NIACC picked up a fall from Robert Rodriguez at 141 pounds and a decision from Brennen Doebel at 125 pounds.
Rodriguez pinned Iowa Western's Derek Miller, who is ranked 8th at 133 pounds, in 31 seconds.
Doebel took a 11-7 decision from the Reivers' Emmanuel Browne.
Iowa Western won eight of the 10 matches, including two by fall and one by technical falls.
In the 285-pound match, the Reivers' third-ranked Stephen Boone edged NIACC's top-ranked Mario Pena 3-1 in overtime.
Boone owns a 2-1 record against Pena as the two standouts split a pair of matches during their freshman season.
