NIACC ranked second in initial NJCAA poll

MASON CITY - The NIACC wrestling team is ranked second in the initial NJCAA ratings.

The Trojans, who placed third at last season's national meet, opens the season Sunday at the ninth annual Kaye Young Open in the NIACC recreation center.

Ellsworth is ranked first in the preseason rankings. Defending national champion Iowa Central is ranked fifth, Iowa Lakes is sixth and Iowa Western is ranked 10th.

In the individual rankings, NIACC's Paul Mascarenas (125) and Shiquan Hall (133) are ranked first. Quincy Kalkbrenner is ranked seventh at 157 pounds, Kyler Mathews is second at 197 pounds and Lawrence Phillips is second at 285.
