Kalkbrenner brings home title for NIACC at Central Invite

PELLA - NIACC's Quincy Kalkbrenner brought NIACC home an individual title Saturday at the Central Under Armor Invite.
Kalkbrenner stopped Simpson College's Jason Clark 11-7 in the finals.
"He injured his ankle first semester so we've kind of been testing the water with that," NIACC coach Steve Kelly said. "I think he might have tweaked it in one of his early matches (Saturday) but at this time of year, you've got to be able to push through that."
Kalkbrenner pinned Logan Loftus of William Penn in his opening match in 25 seconds. He took a 11-2 major decision from Jeremy Vester of Central in the quarterfinals and pinned Morningside's Dakota Drenth in :43 in the semifinals.
Kalkbrenner, who is ranked seventh at 157 pounds in the NJCAA rankings, is 8-2 with two pins, two technical falls and two major decisions. He has a career record of 27-13 with seven falls, four technical falls and four major decisions.
Taylor Lehman added a runner-up finish at 141 for NIACC, which took sixth in the tournament with 55.5 points. Bradley Irwin placed fourth at 149 pounds and Jakubb Fahrenkrug was fourth at 157 pounds.
Lehman was 4-1 on the day to improve his record to 7-7 with 2 falls. Irwin was 4-2 on the day to improve is record to 8-8 with three falls, one technical fall and one major decision. Fahrenkrug was 3-2 on the day and is 7-10 this season with three falls.
Central College was the tournament champion wtih 131.5 points and Wartburg College was second with 81.5 points.
