NIACC places third at Jim Currell Invite

BOONE - The NIACC women's golf team placed third at DMACC's Jim Currell Invitational Friday at the Cedar Pointe Golf Course with a 357.

Host DMACC was the team champion with a 339 and Iowa Central was second with a 343.

NIACC was led by freshman Meghan DeLong with an 83, which was tied for fourth in the individual medalist competition. Iowa Central's Ivanna Becerra-Diaz was the individual medalist with a 75.

"Meghan had a difficult day on the greens (Friday)," NIACC coach Chris Frenz said, "but she struck the ball well overall. She just couldn't get the flat stick working."

Also for the Trojans, sophomore Paige Danger shot 88, Addy Boell shot 89, Ashlyn Berven shot 97 and Kenedee Frayne shot 106.

"It was great to see Paige Danger and Addy Boell break into the 80s (Friday)," Frenz said. "Paige has done it a couple of times this fall and has put together a good fall season.

"If she gets her putter figured out, she'll be dangerous. Addy had one of her best rounds and I couldn't be more excited for her because she still has room for improvement. Now, if we can get Ashyln back down into the 80s and get that fifth score lower, we'll be right there."

Frayne, who is also a member of the NIACC volleyball team, played her first round of the fall season Friday.

"She'll be with us this spring, but this was a great way to introduce her to the college game," Frenz said. "I know she wasn't real happy with her score but at this point it didn't matter. It was just good to have her play."

The Trojans' Kaiya Holten shot 129 playing as an individual.

NIACC returns to action Sunday at the Waldorf University Fall Invitational at the Wedgewood Golf Course in Albert Lea, Minn.
