NIACC women in second at Iowa Central Invite
FORT DODGE - The NIACC women's golf team is in second place after the first day at the Iowa Central Invitational on Sunday at the Fort Dodge Country Club.
The Lady Trojans shot an opening-day of round of 364. Iowa Lakes is the first day leader with a 345 and Southwestern is in third with a 371.
"The women's team started finding their stride on the front nine (Sunday)," NIACC coach Chris Frenz said, "and should have some good confidence heading into day two.
"We started on the back nine, which is tougher of the two 9s."
Sophomore Ashley Alert led the Lady Trojans with a 40-46 - 86.
"Sydney birdied eight and nine and really started hitting her driver better," Frenz said. "She's an excellent putter too, but that's been as cold as the weather."
Also, Ashley Alert shot a 44-46 - 90, Morgan Luecht shot a 39-54 - 93 and Jordyn Barragy shot a 44-51 - 95.
"For Morgan Luecht to bounce back and shoot 39 is outstanding," Frenz said. "We need a good day (Monday) to get ready for regionals this weekend."
Team standings - Iowa Lakes 345, NIACC 364, Southwestern 371, Valley City State 409, Iowa Central 416.
