NIACC's Tusler fires 93, Maasch shoots 115 on 2nd day at nationals
BRASELTON, Ga. - NIACC freshman Courtney Tusler shot a 45-48 - 93 Tuesday during the second day of the NJCAA Division I national golf tournament at the Chateau Elan Golf Club.
Tusler opened with a 92 on Monday.
"Courtney took two 8s on the first two holes and started out plus-eight right out of the gates," NIACC coach Chris Frenz said. "She did an outstanding job of staying in the moment and battling back from what could have really been a nightmare-type round.
"Her game is in good shape right now, but when you make a mistake on a championship-caliber golf course it really makes you pay."
Also Tuesday, freshman Brooke Maasch shot a second-round 55-52 - 107. Maasch opened her national tournament with a 115 on Monday.
"Brooke got off to a great start," Frenz said, "and was really playing well through the first half of the front line then a couple of big numbers got her rolling the wrong way. It's hard to get that back.
"She did better herself from day one and that's her goal again (Wednesday)."
Tuesday's second round was played with temperatures of up to 90 degrees.
"If we were coming here in the middle of an Iowa summer, we would have adjusted to this type of heat already," Frenz said, "but we're not and it took a toll on us a little (Tuesday)."
The final twp rounds will be played Wednesday and Thursday.
