NIACC stops Ellsworth, 78-76
IOWA FALLS - Haley Hungerholt connected on a 3-point goal with 43 seconds remaining to lift the NIACC women's basketball team to a 78-76 victory over Ellsworth Wednesday night in an ICCAC contest.
With the game knotted at 75-75, Hungerholt drained a 3-point goal from the left wing with less than a minute remaining to give the Lady Trojans a 3-point cushion.
Ellsworth added a free throw in the final seconds, but that was as close as the Panthers would get.
NIACC was led by Kourtney Manning with 19 points, a career-high 17 rebounds, five assists, four steals and three blocked shots. It was the fifth double/double of the season for Manning.
The 17 rebounds by Manning was the most in a game since Autam Mendez grabbed 17 boards against Little Priest Tribal College on Feb. 26, 2020.
Also for the Lady Trojans, Jessa Gasteiger scored a career-high 14 points with four rebounds. Haley Hungerholt scored 10 points with five rebounds, five steals and two assists.
NIACC's Courtne Miller scored 11 points with four rebounds, Calista Polk scored a career-high nine points and Czarina Mada scored nine points.
NIACC (4-14 overall, 3-13 in the ICCAC) wraps up the regular season Saturday at home against Southwestern. Game time is slated for 1 p.m. in the NIACC gym.
