NIACC tops Southwestern, 99-70
MASON CITY - The NIACC women's basketball team topped Southwestern 99-70 on Saturday to complete the best regular season in school history.
No. 1 NIACC improved its overall record to 29-1 overall and 16-0 in the ICCAC. The previous best regular season mark was 28-2 in the 2013-14 season.
NIACC has won 28 straight ICCAC contests. The Lady Trojans won their final 12 league games in the 2018-19 season.
The Lady Trojans, who are 13-0 at home this season, pushed their home-court winning streak to 31 games. Also, sixth-year coach Todd Ciochetto improved his record to 150-46.
In Saturday's game, sophomore Autam Mendez became the fourth player in school history to score 1,000 career points. Mendez scored 28 points and now has 1,015 career points, which ranks fourth on the school's career list.
Freshman Sierra Morrow led the Lady Trojans with 30 points, seven blocked shots and six rebounds. Mendez led the Lady Trojans with 11 rebounds.
It was the 11th double/double of the season for Mendez and the 19th of her career.
Also for NIACC, sophomore Kelcie Hale scored 11 points with four steals and three assists.
NIACC will host either Little Priest Tribal College or Ellsworth in the opening round of the NJCAA Region XI tournament at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
