No. 3 NIACC nips No. 5 Lincoln Land in OT, 84-81

QUINCY, Ill. - The top five battle went to NIACC.

The No. 3 NIACC women's basketball team edged No. 5 Lincoln Land CC 84-81 in overtime Saturday as part of the John Wood CC Classic.

Freshman Sierra Lynch scored all six of NIACC's points in the extra session. She scored on a layup to tie the game at 80-80 with 2:40 left in the game and hit four free throws down the stretch to keep the Lady Trojans' winning streak in tact.

NIACC improved its overall record to 12-0, which matches the start of the 2013-14 squad.

Freshman Sierra Morrow recorded her second triple/double of the season to lead the Lady Trojans. She scored a career-high 29 points with a career-best 17 rebounds and 12 blocked shots.

Morrow also recorded a triple/double against Marshalltown CC on Nov. 9 with 23 points, 13 blocked shots and 12 rebounds.

Also for the Lady Trojans, Lynch scored 20 points and Autam Mendez scored 15 points with 13 rebounds. It was Mendez' second double/double of the season and 10th of her career.

NIACC puts its perfect mark on the line at the Illinois Central Holiday Tournament Dec. 28-30. The Lady Trojans face No. 11 Bryant & Stratton (Wis.) in the opening round of the annual tournament at 4 p.m. on Dec. 28.

Notes: Saturday's overtime contest was NIACC's first since the Lady Trojans topped Illinois Central 95-89 in the 2018-19 season opener ... NIACC coach Todd Ciochetto is 4-0 in overtime games ... Ciochetto's teams also beat NDSCS 78-77 in OT in 2017-18 and stopped Illinois Central 84-76 in OT in 2015-16.
