No. 10 NIACC cruises past Bryant & Stratton, 117-95
MASON CITY - Freshman Jada Buford scored a career-high 40 points with six rebounds and four steals to lead the No. 10 NIACC women's basketball team to a 117-95 victory over No. 20 Bryant & Stratton on Sunday afternoon at the NIACC Thanksgiving Classic.
The 40 points by Buford is the second time this season a NIACC player has scored at least 40 points in a game. Freshman Mandy Willems scored 45 points against Bay College on Nov. 3 at the Konigsmark Klassic.
The 40 points is tied for the 13th best single-game performance in NIACC women's history.
NIACC (6-2 overall) also received a double-double from freshman Autam Mendez, who scored 21 points with 15 rebounds for the second straight night. Mendez, who has three career double-doubles, had the exact same point/rebound numbers in Saturday's win over Kalamazoo Valley CC.
Willems scored 24 points, including six 3-point goals, with seven rebounds, three assists and two steals against Bryant & Stratton. Ty'neecia Longs recorded her first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds and Kelci Hale scored 10 points with six assists and three steals.
Sunday's win was the 99th career win for NIACC coach Todd Ciochetto, who has a career mark of 99-40 in four-plus seasons.
NIACC returns to action Friday and Saturday at the Great Western Classic on the Iowa Central campus. The Lady Trojans face Northeast CC on Friday and NDSCS on Saturday.
