No. 9 NIACC faces No. 18 Illinois Central in opener

MASON CITY - The No. 9 NIACC women's basketball team faces No. 18 Illinois Central at 6 p.m. Friday in the NIACC gym in the Konigsmark Klassic.

Also on Friday, the Ellsworth women face Bay College at 2 p.m.

On Saturday, the Lady Trojans face Bay College at 3 p.m. Illinois Central and Ellsworth square off at 1 p.m. 

NIACC and Illinois Central have played 11 times since the 2012-13 season. The Lady Trojans are 4-7 against Illinois Central in those 11 games, including a 84-76 overtime win in the 2015-16 Konigsmark Klassic.

The Lady Trojans topped Illinois Central 95-76 at the 2016-17 Konigsmark Klassic.

Climbing the charts

Sophomore Taylor Laabs scored 314 points in her freshman season in 2016-17. Laabs currently ranks 56th on the school's all-time scoring list. Former NIACC coach Kelli Terrell, who played from 2003-05, ranks 55th on the school's career list with 328 career points.

Laabs connected on 63 3-point goals in the 2016-17 season, which is tied for 21st on the career list with Kristi Benson (2002-04). Katie Long (1999-2001) and Chelsey Jacox (2012-14) are tied for 19th on the list with 66 career 3-point goals.

Kelsie Willert connected on 54 3-point goals in the 2016-17 season, which ranks 27th on the school's career list. Riley Galvin (2015-17) ranks 26th on the all-time list with 55 career 3-point goals.

UU Longs recorded 75 assists in her freshman season, which ranks 44th on the school's career assist list. Amber Riesenberg (2005-07) ranks 43rd on career list with 77 assists.
