NIACC women upset No. 11 DMACC, 90-80
BOONE - For the fourth straight season, the NIACC women's basketball team will play for the regional title.
NIACC (19-12) upset No. 11 DMACC 90-80 in Thursday's NJCAA Region XI semifinals to move to Saturday's championship game.
DMACC bows out at 27-5. The Bears stopped the Lady Trojans 71-58 and 97-79 during the regular season.
NIACC will face Kirkwood at 1 p.m. Saturday in Cedar Rapids. No. 1 Kirkwood stopped Southwestern 79-52 in its regional semifinal on Thursday.
Kirkwood (32-0) stopped NIACC twice during the regular season. The Eagles won 71-65 in Mason City and 93-81 in Cedar Rapids.
In Thursday's regional semifinal against DMACC, Kelsie Willert led NIACC with 18 points. Khalilah Holloway was next in line with 14 points.
Also for the Lady Trojans, Hattie Davidson scored 13 points, Taylor Laabs scored 11 points and Cierra Stanciel scored 10 points.
NIACC jumped out to a 54-39 lead at the half on the strength of 10 3-point goals.
Notes - Saturday's title game will be the 11th in school history for the NIACC women's basketball team ... The Lady Trojans are 8-2 in regional title games ... Kirkwood will be playing in its 27th regional title game ... The Eagles are 16-10 in regional championship games.
