No. 15 Kalmazoo Valley stops No. 17 NIACC, 85-70

EAST PEORIA, Ill. - The No. 17 NIACC women's basketball team dropped a 85-70 decision to No. 15 Kalamazoo Valley CC in the opening round of the Stoney Creek/Cougar Holiday tournament Wednesday on the Illinois Central campus.

NIACC (6-6 overall) led 43-33 at the half and 62-59 after the third quarter.

Kalamazoo Valley outscored NIACC 23-8 in the fourth quarter.

"We stopped working," NIACC coach Todd Ciochetto said. "Our game plan just went out the window. We took four charges in the first half and had none in the second half.

"We stopped playing tonight and hopefully that doesn't happen throughout the rest of the tournament.

Taylor Laabs led four NIACC playes in double figures with 14, Hattie Davidson had 13, Riley Galvin scored 12 and Khalilah Holloway added 11 points and 15 rebounds.

NIACC plays South Suburban at noon Thursday in the consolation bracket of the annual holiday tournament. Illinois Central beat South Suburban 62-51 in its first-round contest on Wednesday.
