OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - In a battle of top 20 teams, the No. 17 NIACC softball team split a twinbill with No. 18 Johnson County CC on Sunday.
NIACC (7-9) won the first game 7-2 and Johnson County CC won the second game 5-1.
In the first game victory, the Trojans scored single runs in each of the first two innings, plated two runs in the fifth inning and pushed across three runs in the sixth frame.
Ally Wall, Mya Bunkers, Katie Riesselman and Camryn Dilla all had two hits for the Trojans. Bunkers and Riesselman both homered and drove in two runs.
Wall and Bunkers both had doubles for the Trojans.
Sophomore right-hander Izzy Sloan (2-3) gained the win in the circle for the Trojans. Sloan allowed two runs on four hits with seven strikeouts and one walk in six innings of work.
It is the third time this season that Sloan has struck out at least seven batters in a contest.
In the second game, Johnson County CC scored four of its five runs in the sixth inning. NIACC scored its lone run in the fourh frame.
NIACC's Makayla Wirkus and Kaitlin Blair both had triples.
NIACC returns to action Tuesday with a non-conference doubleheader against NDSCS in Kansas City, Kan.
