BOONE - The No. 20 NIACC softball team stayed alive at the NJCAA Region 11-B softball tournament Sunday with a 10-1 six-inning victory over Iowa Lakes in an elimination game.
NIACC (33-22) scored six runs in the third inning with the help of two-run home runs from Madisyn Kelley and Madisyn Bauer and scored four runs in the sixth inning with another two-run homer from Kelley.
NIACC, which dropped a 14-0 five-inning contest to DMACC earlier Sunday, faces DMACC in the regional title game at noon on Monday. The Trojans will have to beat the Bears twice to claim the regional title.
Macy Kellar picked up the win in the circle for the Trojans against the Lakers.
In the Trojans' game against DMACC on Sunday, the Bears (43-9) scored at least two runs in each of its four at-bats. The Bears scored four runs in the first inning, three in the second inning, two in the third inning and five in the fourth frame.
DMACC's Courtney Donahue struck out 12 and held the Trojans to one hit.
The winner of the NJCAA Region 11-B tournament advances to the district tournament May 10-11 at the site of the NJCAA Region 13 champion. The winner of the 3-game series in the district tournament advances to the NJCAA Division II World Series May 20-25 in Spartanburg, S.C.
