COUNCIL BLUFFS - The NIACC softball team was swept by Iowa Western on Friday in its season-opening doubleheader.
Iowa Western won the first game 7-3 and took the second game 9-0 in five innings.
In the first game, the Lady Trojans received a solo home run from sophomore leadoff hitter Tayler Schmidt. It was Schmidt's eighth career home run.
NIACC returns to action Saturday in a doubleheader at Johnson County CC. The non-conference twinbill starts at 2 p.m.
