AUSTIN, Minn. - The NIACC softball team split an ICCAC doubleheader with Iowa Lakes on Monday.
Iowa Lakes won the first game 14-8 and NIACC took the second game 9-1 in six innings.
In the second game, NIACC pounded out 14 hits to score its nine runs. The Lady Trojans scored one run in the first inning, plated three runs in the fourth inning and pushed across six runs in the sixth inning.
NIACC sophomore Shelby Low collected three hits and freshman Kaitlyn Carlson drove in three runs.
Sophomore right-hander Courtney Johannes (7-4) gained the win in the circle for the Lady Trojans. She struck out seven, scattered six hits and allowed one earned run in six innings of work.
In the first game, Iowa Lakes scored nine of its 14 runs in two innings - five in the second frame and four in the sixth inning. The Lakers collected 15 hits, including seven doubles.
For the Lady Trojans, Morgan Thesing-Ritter collected four hits and five other players had two hits apiece.
NIACC (11-15 overall, 2-2 in the ICCAC) returns to action Friday in a league twinbill at Kirkwood. The first game is slated to start at 2 p.m.
