Comets' Schmidt signs with NIACC
CHARLES CITY - Charles City's Tayler Schmidt recently signed a national letter of intent with NIACC to play softball beginning in the fall of 2018.
"Tayler is a dynamic athlete from one of the best softball teams not only in our area, but in the state," first-year NIACC coach Dan Gratz said. "She is exactly what we are looking for in a softball player – speed, power, and great ability in the field.
"Tayler will add a dimension that will take our 2018 class to another level."
Schmidt, who was a Class 3A third-team all-state selection as a junior, hit .464 with 18 doubles, seven home runs and 38 RBIs last summer in helping lead the Comets to a record of 33-8. She also was 8-1 as a pitcher with a 2.41 earned run average, 36 strikeouts and 23 walks in 52 1/3 innings pitched.
