NIACC softball team drops pair to Marshalltown CC

MARSHALLTOWN — Marshalltown Community College was too much for the NIACC softball team to handle Thursday as the Tigers rolled to a sweep in a pair of games. MCC's Paige Taylor tossed a five-inning no-hitter to help the Tigers to an 8-0 win in Game 1 and the Marshalltown offense pounded out 17 hits in a 16-8 win in six innings in Game 2.

"Poor pitch selection was the key and the difference for us in the two games," NIACC coach Christi Weiser said. "And it was just not necessarily being ready to play when they stepped of the bus."

Katie Chapman homered for the Lady Trojans in the nightcap while Jenni King and Shay Vesel each doubled. It was Chapman's first career home run.

NIACC travels to Northeast Community College on Sunday for a doubleheader. The Lady Trojans also play at DMACC on Monday.

"I'm just proud of the girt that they're showing as they battle through," Weiser said. "We have to continue to have that grit but also perform at an offensive level."
