TUCSON, Ariz. — The No. 15 (NJCAA Division II) NIACC softball team concluded its Arizona trip with a split against the Gustavus Adolphus JV on Friday.
The Lady Trojans (9-9) collected 18 hits as they picked up a 15-2 victory in the opener before falling 2-0 in the nightcap.
"I don't know that we swung at a bad pitch in the first game," NIACC coach Christi Weiser said. "Every kid produced and it's scary when we can do that. We didn't have bad at-bats in the second game, we just ran into a great pitcher with great movement and command."
Katie LaBuda and Sara Tefft paced the offense in the opener with three hits apiece. Teft and Lexy Pederson drove in three apiece while Brittany Florea and Sara Steinman each had two RBIs.
In the circle, Becca Huberty picked up the win, allowing four hits, while walking one.
"Becca did a great job of mixing up her pitches," Weiser said. "She didn't record a strikeout but she got some easy outs and kept our defense engaged."
In the nightcap, Kendall Cornick and Florea each had two hits while Lexy Pederson struck out four and walked four for NIACC.
