First Trent Smith Invitational set for Oct. 13
MASON CITY - The NIACC men's and women's cross country teams will host the first Trent Smith Invitational on Oct. 13, 2017.
Smith, who died in a car accident in the fall of 2016, was a former cross country and track and field standout for NIACC from 2011-13. He was NIACC's first male cross country all-American and is the current school record holder in the indoor 3,000-meter run.
The women's 5-kilometer race will start at 4:30 p.m. on the NIACC campus. The men's 8K race will start at 5:15 p.m.
The entry fee is $100 per team.
NIACC is also looking to field a men's and women's alumni teams for the race. Team captains are former standouts Anna (Buenneke) Lucs and Jacob Day.
The entry fee for a NIACC alumni runner is $10.
