NIACC's Thomas sets school mark in triple jump
MANKATO, Minn. - NIACC sophomore Terrence Thomas placed third in the triple jump and long jump on Saturday at Minnesota State-Mankato's Mark Schuck Open and set a school record in the triple jump.
Thomas, who is from Antigua and Barbuda, earned his third place in the triple jump with a leap of 14.64 meters (48 feet, 0 1/2 inches). He broke his own school record 14.51 meters (47-7 1/4), which he set at Wartburg's Chelsey M Henkenius Invitational on Jan. 18.
Thomas placed third in the long jump with a leap of 7.30 meters (23-11 1/2).
Also for the Trojans Saturday, sophomore Quinton Ellis placed second in the 600-meter dash in a time of 1 minute, 22.11 seconds, which is tied for third on the school's all-time indoor 600 list.
NIACC sophomore Tyreese James placed fourth in the 60-meter dash in a time of 6.90.
NIACC sophomore Ryan Kelly placed seventh in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 16:05.16. The Trojans' Dakota Carlson, a freshman, placed 13th in the high jump (1.83 meters/6-0).
NIACC freshman Isaac Thompson was 16th in the 1,000-meter run in a time of 2:49.84.
NIACC returns to action Friday at Wartburg College's Friday Knight Lights in Waverly.
