NIACC's Khat qualifies for 800 finals at nationals
PITTSBURG, Kan. - NIACC's Wal Khat qualified for the finals of the 800-meter run by running a 1 minute, 55.62 in the prelims Friday night at the NJCAA national indoor track and field meet.
The finals are set for 3:05 p.m. Saturday.
College of DuPage's Torrain Haughton clocked the fastest qualifying time in the 800 with a time of 1:53.62.
Khat set the NIACC indoor school record in the 800 with a time of 1:53.06 on Feb. 11 at the South Dakota State University Indoor Classic.
Also for NIACC on Friday at the national meet, Blake Keller placed 15th out of 16 runners at the in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 15:40.47.
Keller was also 19th in the 3,000 in a time of 9:13.52.
The Trojans placed 16th out of 17 teams in the distance medley relay in a time of 10:59.45. The Trojans ran Samuel Dean, Ethan Klasi, David Carter and John Kraft.
For the NIACC women, the Lady Trojans placed 14th out of 14 teams in a time of 13:28.94. The Lady Trojans ran Amy Fullerton, Cassandra Bonsall, Keisha Gonzague and Kendra Schmidt.
NIACC's Cailey Weaver clocked a 2:23.29 in the prelims of the 800 and did not make the finals.
