NIACC's Saunders earns first-team all-region honor
MASON CITY - NIACC sophomore midfielder Lewis Saunders was a first-team all-NJCAA Region XI selection.
Saunders led the Trojans with seven goals and nine assists in the 2018 season. Saunders collected seven goals with 13 assists in his two-year career at NIACC and the 13 assists ranks fifth on the school's career assist list.
NIACC freshman forward Alex Scarano was a second-team all-region selection. Scarano also scored seven goals and had three assists in the 2018 season.
NIACC sophomores Harry Holland (defender) and Thomas Humphreys (midfielder) were both honorable mention all-region selections. Holland scored two goals and Humphreys scored four goals with two assists.
NIACC was 6-9-1 overall in 2018 and 4-5-1 in the ICCAC. The Trojans dropped a 2-1 decision to Indian Hills in the opening round of the NJCAA Region XI tournament.
Regular season and tournament champion Marshalltown led the way with four first-team selections.
