FORT DODGE — NIACC shot 313 to take third place in Tuesday's Iowa Central Invitational at the Fort Dodge Country Club. Iowa Central won the invite with a 305, led by former Belmond-Klemme prep Wes Buntenbach's medalist round of 73.
"I'm pleased with how we played today, and to finish third in a really big field is a nice accomplishment for us the way we've been playing," NIACC coach Chris Frenz said. "We also know that we left some strokes out there so there is still room to improve and it really won't take the much."
Josh Schaefer led the Trojans with a 76, Devin Koob had a 77, Joe Nordquist had a 79 and Zach Nicholson and Anthony Emanuel each shot 81.
Nathan Winter led the NIACC B team, which finished sixth, with a 78. Also for the NIACC B team, Kenton Waters shot a 79, Mitchell Scholl shot a 80, Jordan Voves shot a 81 and Zach Bond shot a 87.
NIACC returns to action May 6-7 at the NJCAA Region XI tournament in Ames.
