Helming's double/double powers Trojans, 81-73
FORT DODGE - Another game, another double/double for NIACC's Wyatt Helming.
The sophomore transfer posted his fourth double/double in the last five games with 29 points and 12 rebounds to lift NIACC to a 81-73 victory over Iowa Central in an ICCAC contest Wednesday evening.
Helming, who has six double/doubles, also recorded recent double/doubles against Link Year Prep Gold (22 points/11 rebounds), Central CC-Columbus (18 points/13 rebounds) and DMACC (21 points/11 rebounds).
Helming increased his scoring average to 18.4 points per game, which ranks second in the ICCAC.
NIACC (7-4 overall) trailed 35-34 at the half but outscored the Tritons 47-38 in the second 20 minutes to pick up its first ICCAC win of the season.
Also for the Trojans, freshman Omarion Roberts scored 18 points with six rebounds. Freshman Malaki Johnson-Bassey scored a career-high 10 points, including two three-point goals.
Freshman Jordan Brown scored eight points with five rebounds, three assists and three steals. Brayden Drea scored six points, including two 3-point goals, with three rebounds, one assist and one steal.
Drea leads the Trojans with 23 3-point goals, which ranks fifth in the ICCAC.
NIACC returns to action Saturday at home against Iowa Western in an ICCAC contest. Game time in the NIACC gym is slated for 3 p.m.
Iowa Western (7-5, 1-0) opened its ICCAC season with a 111-105 win over Northeast CC on Wednesday.
