NIACC men fall to Kirkwood in tourney opener, 78-71

CEDAR RAPIDS - The NIACC men's basketball team dropped a 78-71 decision to No. 15 Kirkwood in the opening round of the NJCAA Region XI tournament on Tuesday.

Kirkwood (24-6) hosts Iowa Lakes at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the regional semifinals. Iowa Lakes advanced with a 86-59 win over Iowa Central.

In other men's regional tournament action Tuesday, top-seed Southwestern rolled past Little Priest Tribal College 137-85 and Ellsworth stopped DMACC 75-60.

Southwestern hosts Ellsworth in the other regional semifinal on Thursday.
