NIACC splits with Kirkwood
CEDAR RAPIDS - The NIACC baseball team split an ICCAC twinbill against Kirkwood Wednesday.
NIACC topped Kirkwood 8-3 in the first game and Kirkwood took the second game 13-5.
In the first game, NIACC broke a 3-3 tie by scoring five runs in the top of the seventh inning. The Trojans held the Eagles scoreless in the bottom of the frame to claim the 5-run victory.
NIACC scored a single run in the first inning and pushed across two runs in the fifth frame.
Kirkwood scored one run in the second inning and scored two runs in the fourth inning.
In the second game, Kirkwood jumped out to a 9-0 lead after the first three innings. The Eagles scored four runs in the first inning, two runs in the second inning and three runs in the third inning.
NIACC put two runs on the board in the fourth inning, scored one run in the seventh innng and plated two runs in the eighth inning.
NIACC (17-25 overall, 13-12 in the ICCAC) returns to action Saturday and Sunday with a three-game series at home against Iowa Central. Saturday's doubleheader at Roosevelt Field is slated to start at 1 p.m.
