DMACC sweeps NIACC
MASON CITY - The NIACC baseball team dropped an ICCAC doubleheader to DMACC Sunday afternoon at Roosevelt Field.
DMACC (10-12 overall, 6-4 in the ICCAC) won the first game 10-7 and took the second game 9-4. The Bears won the four-game series, 3-1.
In the first game, DMACC took advantage of 10 NIACC walks and pounded out 12 hits to score its 10 runs. The Bears scored two runs in the second inning, three runs in the third and fifth innings and two runs in the sixth inning.
NIACC (7-8, 2-6) was held to a single run through the first six innings but plated six runs in its last at-bat in the seventh inning to close the final deficit to three runs. Declan Beers hit a grand slam for the Trojans in the seventh inning.
It was Beers' second grand slam of the season as he also hit one against Illinois Central on March 7.
In the second game, DMACC collected 14 hits and took advantage of six NIACC errors to score its nine runs.
DMACC scored three runs in the second inning and pushed across four runs in the fourth frame. The Bears also scored single runs in the first and sixth innings.
NIACC received a two-run home run from Mason Nadolney in the fourth inning and a solo home run from Thomas Gross in the ninth inning.
NIACC returns to action Wednesday in an ICCAC doubleheader at Kirkwood.
