NIACC tops Ellsworth, 13-3
CLINTON - The NIACC baseball team stayed alive at the NJCAA Region XI tournament on Friday.
NIACC stopped Ellsworth 13-3 in six innings in an elimination game in the final game of the day Friday at Ashford University Field.
NIACC, which dropped its tournament opener to Southeastern on Thursday, faces DMACC at 3 p.m. Saturday in another elimination game.
In Friday's game, Ben Fitzgerald and Will Sturek both drove in four runs to lead the Trojan offense. Also for NIACC, Fox Leum drove in three runs.
Fitzgerald was 2 for 3 with a double and a triple. Sturek was 3 for 4 with a home run.
NIACC jumped in front 2-0 after the first inning and broke the game open with 10 runs in the fourth inning.
Patrick Pridgen gained the win for the Trojans. He allowed no runs on two hits with five strikeouts and three walks.
