MASON CITY - The NIACC baseball team split an ICCAC doubleheader with Kirkwood on Sunday at Roosevelt Field.
NIACC won the first game 10-4 and dropped the nightcap 18-6 in seven innings.
In the first game, NIACC freshman Caden Kratz gained the win on the mound. The former Newman Catholic standout allowed four runs on four hits with five strikeouts and four walks.
NIACC received a two-run home run from Will Sturek in the third inning and a three-run home run from Gabe Denton in the sixth frame.
In the second game, Kirkwood led 6-1 after the second inning, but the Trojans battled back to to tie the contest at 6-6 after five innings.
Kirkwood, however, outscored the Trojans 12-0 in the sixth and seventh innings to win the final game of the four-game set.
NIACC's Fox Leum hit a solo home run in the third inning and Anthony Catalano hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning.
