NIACC stops RCTC, 15-5
MASON CITY - The NIACC baseball team topped RCTC 15-5 in seven innings in its home opener on Friday.
NIACC pounded out 14 hits, including two home runs from Shane Kelleher and one home run from Ben Fitzgerald, to claim the nonconference victory.
Fitzgerald hit a 3-run home run in the second inning and added an RBI-double in the sixth inning. Kelleher hit a solo home run in the fourth inning and hit a 2-run home run in the sixth inning.
It was the 40th time in the Travis Hergert era, which started in 2013, that a Trojan hit two home runs in a game.
NIACC sophomore Carson Parker was 3 for 4, incuding a 2-RBI double in the second inning. It was the first three-hit game of Parker's career.
Chase Rath gained the win for the Trojans. He allowed one run on two hits with seven strikeouts and one walk in five innings of work.
NIACC returns to action Saturday and Sunday in a four-game home series against Kirkwood. The Saturday twinbill at Roosevelt Field is slated to start at 2 p.m. and Sunday's twinbill starts at 1 p.m.
