MASON CITY - The NIACC baseball team keeps on winning.
NIACC pushed its winning streak to 14 games with a doubleheader sweep of Ellsworth on Friday night at Roosevelt Field.
NIACC won the first game 15-4 and took the nightcap 17-16 with a dramatic ninth-inning comeback.
In the second game, NIACC trailed 16-14 heading into its final at-bat. Ben Komonosky tied the game with an RBI double to straight away center field and the Trojans won the game when Ben Fitzgerald reached on an infield single and Komonsky scored the game-winning run on a throwing error by Ellsworth first baseman Reed Collins.
NIACC hit six home runs in the second game, including two each from Joey Werner and Fitzgerald. Ezequias Encarnacion and Nate VanKan also homered in the second game for the Trojans.
Collins hit three home runs and drove in nine runs for Ellsworth in the second game.
In the opener, Encarnacion hit two home runs and drove in six runs to power the Trojan offense. VanKan also hit a two-run home run for the Trojans.
Sophomore right-hander Spencer Chirpich gained the complete-game win for the Trojans. He scattered seven hits and struck out a career-best 10 in his six innings of work.
The 14-game winning streak is the longest in the Travis Hergert era, which started in 2013. The last loss for the Trojans was a 12-2 loss to Kirkwood on April 12.
NIACC (33-17-1 overall, 19-6-1 in the ICCAC) wraps up its league season on Saturday in a twinbill at Ellsworth. The first game is slated to start at 1 p.m.
