NIACC's Michie will sign letter of intent with Mercer University today
MASON CITY - NIACC sophomore baseball player Brandon Michie will sign a national letter of intent with Mercer University (a NCAA Division I school in Macon, Georgia) later today.
Michie continues the trend of the NIACC baseball team sending players on to the NCAA Division I and II levels.
Last season's team had eight players go to Division I four-year schools and one signed with a Division II school. Also, Malique Ziegler had committed to Iowa before he was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 22nd round.
Mercer University is a member of the Southern Conference. The Bears were 38-23 overall last season and 16-8 in the conference.
Michie, a second-team all-NJCAA Region XI selection as a freshman, hit .355 last season with 45 RBIs, 22 doubles and seven home runs. NIACC was 47-16 in 2016 and advanced to the NJCAA Division II World Series for the third time in four seasons.
The 22 doubles is the third most in a single season in NIACC history.
